Names changed to maintain confidentiality.  Below are some genuine case studies, based on real clients, demonstrating that therapy can take one or two sessions for some people and many more sessions for others.  Everybody is unique.

1)

M. came to see me with a dread of going through an MRI scan in early 2010.

She needed to have the scan because of a suspected tumour, or suspected  bleed into her brain. (stroke)  Inspite  of wearing headphones, and counselling at one of the local hospitals, she could not stay in the scanner, breaking out into a 'cold sweat' in her own words, with feelings of panic due to what she described as 'claustrophobia'.

On our first session I used conscious analytical techniques, with NLP and light hypnosis.

On the second session with M, I used Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,  Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy with positive suggestion using her own language patterns and tailored scripts I had written just for her.

The day after this session she arranged for her scan, and I offered her telephone support the day before the scan.   M underwent her scan completely successfully with no fear, and the clinicians were able to diagnose her exact condition.  M was able to have treatment for her ailment, and said that without my help she would never have had the correct diagnosis and treatment which saved her life.

A large company wanted to employ a new legal representative.  The previous member of staff had not 'fitted in' with the organisation, causing stress, demotivation to other staff, and to themself.

The legal representative had saved the company a lot of money on tribunal cases in the past, but due to work related stress, actually made a successful claim against them for harrassment in the work place.

The cost of attrition, settlement, legal costs and re-recruitment was in the region of £48,000.  Not counting staff days off sick in the department, (higher than the rest of the company) cost of lost productivity, increased administration, and mistakes made.

A recruitment agency asked me to help with the process of finding a replacement.   They did the testing for competencies, personality, legal checks and qualifications.  I administered the i.W.A.M (Measure for Attitude and Motivation in the working environment) provided by Mind International.   I have trained in Conversational Decoding and as a licensed agent, I was able to test potential clients for their work attitude and motivation.  I had previously tested the the rest of the team and management, so was able to provide a model of excellence for the motivational patterns required for this particular role, and help to structure the wording in the advertisement to attract the right candidate.

Choices of candidate were based upon:-  Qualifications, CV, Experience, References, Competencies, Personality, and now importantly,  BOTH Attitude and Motivation designed not only to suit the post, but to match and compliment the team.   The decision process helped with diversity, removing personal opinion from the original screening processes, and helped the organisation match the right person to the right job within a shorter time frame to the normal interview process in place.

Three months later, the company are delighted with the result, they have a new real team player on board, attrition levels have fallen, and normal productivity has been resumed.

They also feel that the use of the i.W.A.M as a measure of team motivation, promotion and in recruitment, and helps with not only with diversity, but has become  a useful 'layer' in their stress management/prevention policy.  Meaning it is actually preventing stress from happening in the first place, so not a traditional policy for managing stress once the negative stress is already there!    Home Page

J came to see me.  He is/was a manager for a military based transport company, and was very sceptical about hypnotherapy.   He had developed acute anxiety as a result of a recent traumatic car accident, he thought he was suffering from 'Post Traumatic Stress'.

After a long discussion, he agreed to therapy even though he was still very sceptical.   I used EFT initially, and then NLP.   Asking him to visualise certain things, and gradually changed his perspective.   He eventually said he just felt 'confused'.  (Which pleased me at the time because I knew his thought processes were changing).

I gave J some 'home-work' to do.  A few simple mental exercises.  J came back to see me a week later, saying he was still a sceptic but did feel a 'bit better'.   He said that there was 'no way' I was going to hypnotise him though.   I agreed with him, and used different techniques, including conscious analytical work and NLP.

Eventually he thought Hypnosis would help him after all, and agreed to 'try this out'.   I used a technique designed for this particular type of personality, based on a combination of confusion, NLP his language patterns, and my analysis.   Combining this into a hypnotherapy session using regression, also 'anchoring' and thought habit breaking techniques, to change the 'programming', so that he became de-sensitised and able to 'forgive' the past events, and move his life forward in a positive way.

Finally in the fourth session, he was able to sleep at night once again, the acute anxiety attacks had ceased.  He was generally more relaxed, his blood pressure was lower, and he was having less 'flash backs' and mood swings.  I trained him in general relaxation techniques, and how to manage stress in the future.   He said that he was 'amazed' and had never experienced such calmness and confidence before in his life as he did now, and thanked me for my help.

A company wanted to measure the 'patterns' of their management team.   We conducted tests on over ten of the management team, and then produced a 'Team Report'.  From this the management team were able to identify the strengths in the team and motivational traits that were missing from the team in order to strengthen the team.  This also  helped identify the teams' motivational patterns and identified which roles and elements of those roles they were most suited to, thus enhancing team understanding of each others roles and their own motivational factors.  The reports highlighted areas where conflict could arise, as part of an overall stress management plan then adaptations could be made as a result of the final assessments.

A's mother rang me in desperation about her son of 19 years.  He had developed acute social anxiety.  He was unable to even leave the house, and could not speak to me on the phone.  I went to the house, met the mother and eventually the son.

I found him to be intelligent, smart, and was in full time employment.  But he told me he had no self confidence.  Somehow he had 'lost' his confidence.  A, went on and told me a lot of things in confidence that I knew could have possibly incriminated either himself or others, and I quickly realised he had started mixing with 'The Wrong Crowd' as they say.

A short half hour session, resulted in a near 'cure'.  His self esteem and confidence restored, and he felt stronger about moving in a more positive direction.   I will be seeing him again in a week or so, but a phone call from his mum reassured me that he was making great changes in his life, and had been able to go back to work.   He seemed more relaxed and confident.   I hope to be able to see him at least one more time, and feel that I have done something useful for this young lad and his family.

6)

Julie contacted me saying she was 'Too scared to leave the house', she was a 17 year old, intelligent teenager from a warm and loving home environment.   Various factors had led to her developing atherophobia and agorophobia.

After 3 visits to her home spending about an hour on each session, she was able to start socialising once again, and has started going out with her sister.   She cancelled her fourth session, stating that she felt a lot better and had regained her 'old confidence', but might contact me again in a month or so (if she felt the need).

I used a combination of CBT and NLP techniques and taught her self hypnosis, using anchors and repetative techniques to help her subconcious 're-learn' to filter external information she receives differently.   Some techniques to boost her self esteem and general self confidence helped too.

7)

On Mentaline a client with aviophobia contacted me, and after one session he was on a plane four days later.    He has not contacted me again but has been travelling since, so assume he has experienced an improvement.  The client did later write to the Newspapers and to Mentaline in praise of the therapy.

8)

Gail contacted me with a fear of birds.   So bad was  her phobia that she would practically run out infront of traffic if a bird came anywhere near her.   I conducted two sessions three weeks apart lasting three hours in total.

Gail then went on holiday and sent me photographs over a mobile phone of her in a park with birds all around her.  She was smiling and said that she had no fear of birds now.   Shame about the beautiful dress though and the need for urgent laundry care after the photos!

9)  January 2012

Liz (34 years of age) came to me unable to reach sexual fulfillment in her relationship.  She had been A-sexual but now wanted to experience more pleasure from the physical relationship she shared with her partner.  The first session consisted of a consultation and relaxation and self hypnosis session.  Building rapport and trust was an essential element in the process for Liz.  Through a process of coaching and hypnosis using regression, and some 'Swish' techniques, Liz identified some emotional abuse from childhood (Which is not always the case for A-sexual people, it just happened to be the case for Liz). Over time she worked through the many issues, and was able to forgive and start to move forward with her life and start to trust people close to her once again.  We worked on self esteem, inner confidence, and a combination of conscious techniques (such as CBT and NLP and 'Time Line Regression').  Her current relationship with her partner was not the most satisfactory in many ways, and perhaps not condusive towards developing the full sense of trust and honesty required with full physical contact.  Liz had not been able to 'pleasure' herself either, and this was something she began to learn to do for the first time in her life.

A process of 'Anger Management' was woven into the therapy, which took over 10 sessions over a period of 5 months with on going coaching and occasional hypnosis sessions.  Liz has reported an improvement in her relationship with her partner and is feeling more confident and happy about herself and her future, and although I suggested that she might like to see another therapist at this stage, Liz insists that she would prefer to continue to see me occasionally for coaching and occasional relaxation sessions, perhaps once every 6 months.

10) Penny  (42yrs) came to see me requesting Gastric Band Hypnotherapy and Weight management.   She weighed in at 22stone and was 5'5" tall, and suffered from diabetes and was taking long acting insulin.   Her husband did not want her to lose weight as he thought it would upset her diabetese and unstabalise her.   But I suspected (after a long consultation) that he felt more 'secure' in the relationship while she was large.

We met together with the diabetic nurse, and discussed how best to manage the weight loss regime.

The first four sessions had no effect on her weight, and infact she put on some weight initially, (a few ounces).  After her sixth session and 3 months later, Penny started to lose weight, steadily and was gradually able to reduce her requirement for insulin.

We met up for a further two weight management and coaching sessions, and Penny is currently stable and weighs just 14 stone, she lost 8 stone over 10 months and put on half a stone over Christmas so has booked for a further session.  She feels much healthier, she has significantly reduced her insulin use, and her diabetese is stable.  In addition she feels more confident and her relationship with her husband is very good.
